Studio Spotlight: CorePower Yoga

Days before I arrived at my new studio apartment in Laguna Beach, I stopped for breakfast at one of my favorite joints in Frisco, Colorado (Butterhorn's).  Our waitress came over and we talked a little bit and she mentioned that she was about to start teaching yoga at a new place in Breckenridge.  I told her that I was on my way to California to start my yoga teacher training and she excitedly asked where I was doing my training. 'CorePower Yoga,' I responded.

'It's like the Harvard of Yoga Studios!

She said excitedly, (she had done her training at a CorePower in Denver) and she was right.  The moment I walked through the doors of the Mission Viejo studio, I fell in love.  There was a cute little boutique full of mala beads, apparel, mats, and water bottles to my left.  Directly in front of me were the locker rooms.  On the way in I passed a large bowl of clementines waiting to be eaten after class. I went to put my things in the locker and found the walls lined with lockers, the showers were stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash.  Next to the sinks were little cups for mouth wash that they provided along with deodorant and cotton swabs.  I know all these things seem really irrelevant for a yoga class, but I love those small details.  It really made me feel like I was on a get-away where all the little things are taken care of for you.

I was doing a free beginner class that night taught by "teachers in training."  I was immediately greeted by five people who were teaming up to teach the course that night.  I told them that I was also doing my yoga teacher training there and they all beamed and told me how much they loved it there.  As the class started, I realized that I was in the right place and had made the right decision to leave New Hampshire and start a new journey.  The class was exactly what I needed. Each teacher picked poses to focus on and lead us through their flow in their own way. It was the first time I had really moved since I started my road trip out to California.  I sweat more in that class than I had sweat ever before in any workout.  That may sound disgusting to some, but it was what I needed.  There wasn't one point in the class that my smile left my face.

A year later, I still continue to practice at CorePower in Boston. The classes and instructors are consistently amazing no matter which CorePower studio I've been to. I highly recommend dropping in if you have one near you! Plus, first week is free for newbies!
